Hundreds came out Thursday to support a company that does a lot for the children in our community and families who struggle to make ends meet.
A luncheon fundraiser was held at the Doubletree Hotel at 16th and Douglas for Kids Can Community Center. Channel 6 News’ John Knicely was master of ceremonies for the event, the largest fundraiser of the year with $62,000 already raised before Thursday’s donations and raffle.
Much of the money raised will go toward the Kids Can Scholarship Program.
"We have a lot of families who make a little too much to qualify for state assistance, but certainly can't afford full rates, so we try to help them out so they can stay in the workforce and give them scholarships and discounts,” said Kids Can executive director Renee Franklin.
The Kids Can Community Center also provides preschool, before and after-school care and tutoring for children ages three to 13.
